trekkin'

this is what happens when you marry a trekkie - a very relaxed long-haul watchthrough of all of it. notes and thoughts along the way will go here. if it's in a dropdown, it might be considered a spoiler.

currently watching: TNG

next up: DS9, Voyager, the movies, Discovery, Picard

the next generation

seasons 1 - 3: ✔

seasons 4 - 7: in progress!

this was my husband's comfort show growing up and it's quickly becoming mine as well. it is very soothing to my autistic brain to watch a show where a bunch of capable professionals work together to solve problems and keep each other safe. i wish everybody explained things to me the way Geordi explains things to Data. i think i'd be a much more settled human if they did.

things i adore:

  • any time Patrick Stewart gets to show off his Shakespearean chops
  • watching Wesley Crusher grow up and into his Starfleet uniform
  • Troi's longsleeved turquoise dress
  • Guinan, always
favorite lines so far

"i busted him up." - Data

"tell me about Tasha Yar." - Guinan

strange new worlds

seasons 1 - 2: ✔

season 3: waiting!

out of all the new!Trek series, this one feels the most like TNG - silly in places but heartfelt throughout. i love Pike as a captain, and i think Ethan Peck is my favorite Spock. (admittedly those are big words from someone who hasn't seen TOS but take me as i am.)

i had to be restrained during the musical episode so that my spine didn't invert from the cringe. i'm so sorry, i'm not even a musical hater, i just couldn't take it seriously and i think the issue was that the songs felt like they were written for radio instead of a musical. it felt like lin-manuel miranda had his hands in it and i want his hands nowhere near this franchise. my husband had pity on me and let me watch half the episode on mute, but otherwise took great joy in watching me be sweaty and ill the rest of the time.

that monstrosity aside, though, i really liked this one and i'm looking forward to the third season.

hello nurse

Christine Chapel is a badass. i want her hair and i ship her with Spock so hard it makes me angry.

holy shit i hope we get more animated Trek! this was such a fun series and told a surprisingly good story punctuated by absolute shenanigans. i loved every minute.

Tendi and Rutherford are my favorite characters, but i quote Mariner on the daily. "joke's on you man - i love the brig!"

badgey

perhaps the most terrifying villain in all Trek???

"i will burn your heart in a fire" goes way too hard is all i'm saying.
